The Mid Year Bump

I shouldn’t have thought it, I just shouldn’t. It was only a few weeks ago I thought to myself, this year is going ok. No major dramas, a bit of sickness (colds/coughs) but nothing to really complain about, we are doing ok.

And then this happened…

The image doesn’t really do it justice, it doesn’t look terribly bad, but it was bad enough to write the car off. I had just dropped the big kids at school, turned down the road to my house, and stopped and indicated to turn into my driveway, a large truck was coming the opposite way so I thought I had better wait for it to pass, and then BAM! an almighty crash. Heath screamed in fright, “where’s the kids” I think he thought they vanished in the smash. I screamed and cried in shock. Within moments my next door neighbours were by my side, the driver of the other vehicle was comforting me and a lady who was driving by (a nurse) had pulled up to help. I have never been in an accident before. I was pretty shaken up, but at least we only had to cross the road to get home. The ambulance came, and the police and checked us both over. Heath went back to playing Mario on the DS and seemed quite disinterested in what was going on around him.

Everyone was so helpful and kind, my car was towed away, never to return (boo hoo) but thankfully we had my in laws car in our driveway as we were trying to sell it for them, so we were not out of a vehicle. Ive had a bit of whip lash since, but it is getting better, Heath was fine, back to his normal self although giving me a few more cuddles and kisses that day. We got a new car (read car loan) as insurance paid up the bare minimum and not a cent more (thanks for 15 years of service, au revoir). So obviously with all that happening (that week was a write off, sorting out insurance, MAIB claims etc) then getting a cold the following week hasn’t allowed me much time to post any images I have taken. So since the accident we have had…. A birthday

Trips to the park

A couple of day trips that require their own blog post because I took way too many photos…

Our bump in the road also included a second accident and also a lens dropping incident which required repairs, so they say things come in three’s right..? That should do it for this year then!!!

Book Week 2011

We have been preparing for book week for a while now, see post here.  Big boy painted his stripes (ok I did most of them) two tubes of paint later…

We used some wire coat hanger bend over the top of her head and then plaited around it. Then we spray painted her hair with orange hair spray, freckles added with a lip liner. I found this link to help with the hair…How to Pippi Longstocking Braids

Book Week – Love it or Loathe it?

Book Week is upon us again, three weeks away on the 24th of August is our parade.  The pressure is on to come up with something unique, something we haven’t already done, year after year till Primary School ends.

Last year I was about to give birth (overdue in fact) and I ordered an outfit for my boy two days prior to the parade, and my daughter used a costume she already had.

I HATE spending money on things like this, I need it for regular clothes! So this year we are trying our best to not buy costumes but to find things cheaply.

So today I went scouring op shops to see what I could find.

The boy has decided he wants to be Wally from Where’s Wally.  You would think it would be easy to find a red and white striped top but not so easy, not even to find new ones.  My daughter wants to be Pippi Longstocking….shouldn’t be too hard, some long stockings, baggy patched clothing.

I couldn’t find a red and white striped top that was the right size stripes or size top for my little man so I bought a red top ($3) which we will paint stripes on, oh and some clothes for me 😉

Ebay has Wally hats for $1, and the same for glasses.

I bought two tops (ladies sizes) which I can layer for my daughter as a dress and the boots all for under $10

I looked on ebay and found some cute striped knee high socks for $4.50

The kids are excited about it and so am I, it will be fun to see how they turn out.  What are your plans for book week this year? Do you love or hate it?
