My daughter turns 6 next week, and she thought it would be fun to have a Rainbow themed party (ok, I suggested it as I saw heaps of rainbow ideas on Pinterest)
(Thankfully) She like the idea and I set off to bake a Rainbow Cake. I searched the net for a good recipe and came across this website Whisk Kid, who also was on Martha Stewart making this cake.
My daughter has been home unwell this week so of course she wanted to help. I printed out the recipe and off we went.
Now the biggest tip in the recipe, is to weigh the bowl before you add any ingredients, and then weigh it after they are all mixed together, this makes it easy to divide the batter between 6 bowls, all by weight.
You also need to use GEL food colouring which comes like this:
The liquid drops from the supermarket will not give a bright enough colour. The pots are about $4.95 each but you don’t need a lot of colour at all.
As far as a cake recipe goes it’s pretty normal, just BIG, flour, egg whites (so as not to colour the batter with yolk), sugar, butter, simple.

Once the batter is all coloured, depending on how many pans you have the same size, into the oven they go,
I had four so I only had to re use two which saved time, they only took 10 minutes to cook.

The cakes are now in the freezer waiting to be closer to the party day, I prepared these in advance so I don’t have too much to do the day before, and seeing as it seems standard to send to school some kind of baked goods for her to share I will probably be cooking something else for that too.
