Back in 2006 I did a night photography course at Launceston College. It was a night course for film, in the darkroom, which I enjoyed immensely. During the course we got the chance to play with the teachers digital camera in the studio, which was all new to me.
We played with the soft boxes, flash triggers and lightmeters. Even though we set the camera to all the recommended settings, they didn’t work out. I was able to salvage a few good ones but, mostly they were too dark.
Looking back at them, my son was happy to be the centre of attention as usual but my daughter was crying in most of them (granted it was past her bedtime I imagine) but it just shows me how restrictive studio shots are. I love to take photos of my kids playing, enjoying themselves, not trying to make them smile or pose a certain way, just them being them.
So here are a few photos from my first studio attempt.
