The Gorge in Flood

In the middle of the city of Launceston, Tasmania is a place called the Cataract Gorge.  It is the best part of Launceston.  It is a fantastic place to go in the summer, beautiful cliff faces, swimming pools, bbq’s, a chairlift that goes across the gorge, and of course peakocks!

This time of year though, it is even more spectacular.  With all the rain we have been having, the Gorge is in flood.

I was sick of being at home in the house on Saturday so I suggested we get out and have a look at all the water.  Here are some photos of our day.

This is where the swimming pools and park are meant to be, in front of that building.

8th Birthday Lego Party

Lego Party, originally uploaded by astrogirl529.

Well this weekend my son turned 8. EIGHT? How did that happen? Anyway, he wanted a Lego themed birthday. I had suggested we just do something small at home as he doesn’t need a big party every year.

I googled Lego theme parties and came up with some ideas.
I decorated the kitchen with some rectangle shaped construction paper across the wall and primary coloured streamers. We filled a jar with Lego pieces for a guess how many game.

I made each child a placemat with Lego facts and pictures made in photoshop using some free Lego fonts (I just did a google search) and got them laminated, they then took these home with them.

We had a race for who could build the tallest Lego tower in 2 mins, a memory game to see who could guess what Lego was missing out of a selection of small parts. A race to see who could build their Lego motorbike first (these were also taken home as part of their loot bag)

We also played Lego bingo which I found online and printed at Lego Batman Comics

Of course we had a Lego cake, which I was very lazy and bought a rectangle sponge cake and marshmallows and just iced it. EASY.

We then ended the party with a water balloon fight!

The kids had a blast, and it was the quietest party ever (the Lego building part anyway!)
